Beauty over shoes?

You've probably heard of Zalando and the chances are you think they sell shoes. Well they do. But did you know they sell beauty products too?

Zalando contacted me a while ago and at first I wasn't really too interested in featuring them as I don't really cover fashion on the site. Don't get me wrong, I love my shoes but I try to stick to beauty and well-being on this site. However, when I found out that Zalando sell beauty products too I was surprised and excited to have a dig around on the site and see what I could find. I ordered two products and they arrived super quickly with no issues which says good things about Zalando's service!

I've had L'Occitane on my 'brands to try' list for some time now, in particular the hand cream which gets rave reviews. So I was rather pleased with myself when I found this Shea Voyage Set which has mini versions of the foot cream, hand cream, ultra rich face cream, shea butter and five cleansing cloths.

This is a great package for trying out L'Occitane products without spending a fortune. This lot cost £25 and if I were to buy just the L'Occitane hand cream at full size (150ml) it would cost £17.50. The hand cream in this set is only 30ml but I've also got four other products to try as well. I'm testing out the contents of this set at the moment and will do a more detailed look at it once I've tested it all out. This is no longer available from Zalando but there are lots of other L'Occitane products available.

I also splashed out a little on a Burt's Bees tinted lip balm from Zalando. This cost £6 which I think is a bit steep for a lip balm but I've loved other Burt's Bees products I've tried so I wanted to give this a go. It comes in quite a funky cardboard tube packaging in two parts which slide apart to reveal the lip balm underneath.

I think I like the packaging a bit too much if I'm honest! It's really pretty but still somehow quite earthy.

I have to say I was a bit disappointed how much smaller the lip balm was than the packaging.

I know how big Burt's Bees other lip balms are as I have the pomegranate one myself, but I thought perhaps they might have gone chunky for the tinted ones. I think that would be a quite a cool change! (Burt if you're reading this, I'm available for product idea consultations!)

I went of Pink Blossom but there are four colours to choose from. I was a bit confused by the colours shown on the site as they all seem to be labelled pink but clearly aren't all pink - I chose pink as it seemed to be the only one where the label matched the image!

It looks quite dark in the tube as you can see here.

Left: Heavily swatched with several swipes. Right: Lightly swatched, one swipe.
It doesn't actually come out that dark on the skin/lips and is quite a nice gentle rosy pink. I'm not madly keen on the texture - it's quite heavy and thick which is a bit disappointing. I have to say I prefer my cheaper pomegranate balm.

Zalando as a shopping site is great. I haven't found any fault in their service or product ranges. I have pointed out the labelling issue on the Burt's Bees tinted lip balm colours and not had a response as yet but will update when I do. There is so much choice there's pretty much something for everyone - whether it's beauty products, shoes or handbags. I'll definitely be keeping my eyes on the site as I really need to update my wardrobe this year! I've already spotted that Zalando sell Converse trainers and I quite fancy these beauties...

So who's up for a bit of shopping then?! Have you shopped at Zalando? What did you get? I'd love to see what other gems can be found in the huge choice at Zalando.

*Zalando provided me with a voucher which covered the cost of the majority of these purchases.
