Today I read an article that made me think – ‘who the hell wrote this rubbish?’ The offending piece of mush was by The Sun so I guess that really explains a lot of it. Now I’m not going to claim I’m any kind of expert in beauty, nor do I know anything about the author, but what I do know is that a lot of these terrible ‘mishaps’ are largely due to flash photography and how the celebs’ chosen makeup reacts to the bright light, rather than the list of what look like fudged together reasons cited by The Sun. Do they really think Eva Longoria looked like that in the bathroom mirror and saw that before she went out? Have a gander at the few I’ve picked out here and see for yourself.
NB: If anyone from The Sun is reading this and is a little pissed, I apologise. Having worked in trashy magazines – admittedly not newspapers – I suspect you blag a lot of what gets written, though I might be wrong. I’ve done it myself when instructed to. To all you non-journos out there, please, for goodness sake, don’t believe anything you read!
This isn’t a bad makeup artist – no one can be that bad unless they’re actually blind. I also doubt it’s the ‘naughty white stuff’ as some people speculated – why would you smear it under your eyes to get high eh? Now, please someone tell me if I’m actually completely wrong here but this looks to me like a powder or concealer which turned out to be unfortunately reflective. We can put this down to a bad makeup artist in that they should know better what makeup works under flash photography – particularly when they’ve made it to Hollywood A-lister makeup artist level.
This one’s a bit different, but it seems a bit mean to give someone like Cameron stick for this makeup which is from 1998 (scraping the barrel for content much?). It’s the nineties for jebus’ sake! Who didn’t wear bright blue eye shadow? Cam’s matured a lot in the last 12 or so years and she looks fine these days.
I know Drew’s a bit of a rebel, maybe a bit hippyish, but I’m fairly sure she didn’t put white powder all around her eyes to ‘stand out’ with a ‘wacky makeup job’. Come on! Really?!
Now this one I hold my hands up to. It’s terrible. I agree. Not sure who could defend it really. It’s the lip liner that really gets me. It’s called ‘lip’ liner for a reason…
Now we all have bad makeup days, sometimes decades, and we don’t get airbrushed like a lot of celebs so it’s easy to pick holes in their more untouched images. But as most of you bloggy-types will know, what looks gorgeous in the mirror, almost never translates through the camera lens. I don’t normally stick my neck out and complain about articles but this really struck me as not the musings of an expert, but the ramblings of a gossip-mongering paper. Any actual experts who’d like to add their opinion please do so in the comments box. I had expected more actual analysis than speculation. Sorry The Sun beauty pages, just my opinion!
